S4Y Hotel problem

Hi

Sorry I hope you will not delete, I don't know enough German :-(

Today my Hotel on S4Y went down, ping is working, but nothing else :-( Powerpanel is not working, says: You don't have any servers ?!?!?

Support says there must be a technical problem and I am the third person today with this problem.

Is here anybody else with the problem and without his server and without Powerpanel at this moment?

Yours

Jerry

Seems that my server is in recovery modus! But I don't know if this modus works in Windows 2003 or is it Linux only?

And the powerpanel is not working...

I understand I am responsible for my server. But I am not responsible for the Server4You problems. Who will pay the damage?

As always in quesitions of liabilty, there is no simple yes or no. I haven't read S4Ys terms of contract but I am dead sure, that they excluded liabilty for technical problems. Therefore nobody but you will have to pay for non material damage (loss of revenue, recovering data). As stated in every terms of contract I know of, you are responsible for the backup of your server data.

If S4you is causing the troubles, they will pay for it...they have to.
Although S4you tends to make others(especially 3rd partys) responsible for problems, you rent something and S4you has to make sure it works as it is written in the contract.

Anyway, this might become difficult, as you are living in a foreign Country, and S4you propably knows that sueing them is not really an option for you.

BUT:
Recovery Modus could be caused by you also, so maybe you are really responsible.
if you lost no data, simply order a "reinstall" via the powerpanel. If you lost data and can not bring it back because you have no working backups, S4you can not and will not help you except you pay for it. - as far as I know, S4you is not offering "remote hands" support, so you got to deal with it on your own.
Everything S4you can do is reinstall your System. This is for free.

I do understand. But I thought that I am responsible for my server in terms of virus protection, breakins, bad software, misconfiguration and hardware failures etc...

But no such thing happened. And it was not my mistake. Powerpanel broke in S4Y they told me. And my server gor newinstaliert. I had raid 1 in windows 2003 but it didn't help obviously.

I lost data for 1 day because I do keep backups, I have customers on a server. My concerns are this:

1. I lost data for one day. Ok. Happens.
2. I lost trust at the company. How can this happen in the first place. That the software panel or something reinstalls your server?!?!? I was not the only one they told me. It is hard for me to sleep well even with backup.
3. I worked about 4 days to install everything on the server what I need. It is not a simple matter of putting Plesk on and restore from backup. I have many 3rd party applications and more importantly configurations and upgrades. This is a lot of work.
4. It took 24 hours to give me the ability to restore back my server. That is a long time in server business!!!

It wasn't a disdaster in the data center or my hardware break (I had raid for this). It is a powerpanel error and my server is gone... I couldn't even log in to powerpanel said that I do not have any servers...

As one can not see BIOS (no console access) I can not do True Image Backups. I dd once and tried torestore, no go. The PC rebooted and never came back, seems there are some questions asked before logging to windows and without Console I can not answer them :-(

So to sum:

My concern is: It took to long to give me back access of my server, I did loose some data as nobody makes backup every second (ok, I know distributed computing) and I loose a lot of work. And not even my computer broke, it was simply a software mistake as they stated.

So it can happen to anybody at any time... :-(

So basically S4you tells you that the powerpanel decided on its own to reinstall your server?

Sounds a bit strange...sounds more like "someone ordered a system-restore and a technician accidently reinstalled the wrong server (and did it wrong, additionally)

You will have to reinstall all 3rd party programs on your own and load the latest backup.

All you can do...at the moment.

If you got customers, I strongly advice you to look for an entirely new hosting company. S4you is bullshit if you want to run customer`s applications/websites/FTPs.

Yes I think it was the second way that someone pressed the wrong button but the system was wrong to let them...

But isn't reinstall automatic fully?

I don't have customers applications, but I use: MySQL 5.0.24a, Plesk 8.1, some components like AspUpload3 etc... Update mailenable etc... Not everything is just customer data, many things have to be done on the server first...

The first thing I have to do is put our Locale :-) End English windows language :-)
